2000 cricket match fixing scandal India vs South Africa Delhi court says some matches were fixed and others were attempted

Match Fixing Scandal: A Delhi court has declared 4 people as accused, who have a direct connection with the match fixing scandal of the year 2000. It is being told that at that time some matches of the Test and ODI series played between India and South Africa were fixed and attempts were made to fix other matches as well. In the year 2000, the South African team was on a tour of India and between 19 February and 19 March, 2 Test and 5 ODI matches were played between the two teams. It is said that at that time some African players did fixing. Now after investigation, the court has found that some matches of the series were fixed and attempts were made to fix other matches as well.

Evidence of fixing in the first test match – The first test match was played in Mumbai from 24-28 February. South Africa’s innings was reduced to 164 runs. After the investigation, evidence was presented in the court that the African team was instructed not to score more than 250 runs in any innings. This evidence also clearly matched the statements of African players Peter Strydom and Hansie Krohn, who had given statements during the investigation in the year 2000.

Fixing could not happen in the second match – The second test match was played in Bengaluru from 2-6 March. Although Hansie Krohn had said that he had talked to other players of the team about match fixing, but ultimately the fixing could not be done in the second match. Many attempts were made for this.

Attempts at fixing in ODI series

The court said that although fixing could not take place in the ODI matches to be held in Jamshedpur on March 12, Faridabad on March 15 and Baroda on March 17, but Krohn’s statement revealed that he had passed on the inside information about fixing to the bookies. On the basis of Krohn’s statements regarding the fifth ODI match held in Nagpur on March 19, the court found that apart from the team’s score, he had also agreed to fix the scores of two other players. Krohn’s deal was that Herschelle Gibbs and Henry Williams would have to be given 15 thousand dollars to fix the match.
