2300 year old statue of village deity
The earliest idol found in Mathura is about 2300 years old. This statue is made of stone and even today it remains the center of attraction for people due to its uniqueness. This statue is about 12 feet high and the design carved on it is amazing. This idol was brought from Parkham village of Mathura and is known as Gram Devta or Raksha Devta in the museum.
Unique statue made of yellow stone
Hari Babu, gallery assistant working in the Government Museum, said that this statue is made of yellow colored stone, which makes it different from other statues. While most of the statues today are found in red saffron stone, this statue is considered special because of its yellow color. It was given the first place in the museum and is considered to be the oldest statue here.
Statue of village deity in traditional attire
This statue of the village deity is in his traditional attire, with a Sitarami garland around his neck and a dhoti below. Hari Babu told that in ancient times the village people used to worship this idol as a protective deity and all auspicious works were started in front of this idol. The religious and cultural importance of this statue remains intact even today, and people come to the museum from far and wide to see it.
