5G Mobile Subscriptions Expected To Reach 700 Million In India By 2028


5G mobile subscriptions in India have reached around 10 million by the end of 2022. By the end of the year 2028, it is estimated to reach about 700 million, which is responsible for about 57 percent of mobile subscriptions in the country. This information has been given in a report on Wednesday. According to Ericsson Mobility Report, the average data traffic per smartphone is expected to increase from 26 GB per month in 2022 to around 62 GB per month in 2028.

4G subscription will decline

According to the report, smartphone subscriptions in India, as a percentage of total mobile subscriptions, are expected to grow from 76 percent last year to 93 percent in 2028 (5G Subscriptions in India 2028). Apart from this, 4G subscriptions are expected to decline from 820 million in 2022 to 500 million by 2028, the report said.

Will be over 1.14 billion by 2028

Nitin Bansal, head of Ericsson India, said, mobile networks are playing an important role in social and economic inclusion in the country. The strong digital infrastructure being set up in India will help the country bridge the digital divide, create jobs, promote entrepreneurship and boost the economy. The number of smartphone subscriptions in the country is projected to grow at a CAGR of 5 percent, from 840 million at the end of last year to over 1.14 billion by 2028.

The report states that smartphone subscriptions in India as a percentage of total mobile subscriptions are expected to grow from 76 per cent in 2022 to 93 per cent in 2028. In India, total mobile data traffic is projected to grow from 18 exabytes (EB) per month in 2022 to 58 EB per month in 2028. In 2028, the total mobile subscriptions (5G mobile subscriptions) in this region are estimated to increase to 1.2 billion. Globally, 5G subscriptions are increasing in every region and are expected to reach 1.5 billion by the end of 2023.

Fredrik Jejdling, Ericsson’s Executive Vice President and Head of Networks, said global adoption of 5G technology has surpassed one billion subscriber numbers, driving positive revenue growth for communications service providers in leading 5G markets. Worldwide, around 240 communication service providers have launched commercial 5G services and around 35 have deployed or launched 5G standalone (SA).
