The Education Ministry has made changes in the Right to Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009 (RTE Act 2009) for schools. Now under the new rules, students who fail in class 5th and class 8th can be prevented from being promoted to the next class. Let us tell you that earlier under RTE Act 2009, states were not allowed to fail the students who failed the regular exam for class 5th and 8th.

Earlier there was no-detention policy
Earlier, no-detention policy was in force under the Right to Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009. Under which no student could be failed from class 1 to class 8. Instead of restricting students to the same class on the basis of their results. It was compulsory to be promoted to the next class every year. In the year 2019, Parliament passed an amendment in the RTE Act. After which the no-detention policy was completely banned.
