On January 1 this year, a record 67 lakh people traveled in Delhi Metro. This is the highest number of passengers on New Year’s Day in the last six years. On Saturday, DMRC released detailed figures in this regard. On January 1 this year, long queues were seen outside many metro stations including Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk and Central Secretariat.

According to the data, on January 1, 2023, 49.16 lakh people had traveled in the metro. Whereas 23.66 lakh passengers traveled in the year 2022, 55.26 lakh in 2020 and 50.16 lakh in 2019. The lowest number of 18.07 lakh passengers traveled in six years was on January 1, 2021. Then it was the first New Year celebration after the Covid-19 lockdown.

Similarly, on December 31 last year, 48.46 lakh people had availed the benefit of Metro. The ridership on New Year’s Eve is the highest among the last six. The data said 55.29 lakh were recorded on December 31, 2019. Whereas in the year 2022, the number of passengers on the same day was 47.40 lakh, in the year 2021 it was 27.45 lakh, in the year 2018 it was 50.67 lakh and in the year 2020, the lowest number of passengers was 18.86 lakh.

Recently DMRC has integrated its ticketing service with One Delhi. DMRC Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal said that One Delhi is currently used to generate QR tickets for DTC buses. The app now serves as a comprehensive platform for streamlined travel.
