Hazaribagh: Many historical buildings tell the tale of the glorious history of Jharkhand. Similarly, the Padma Fort here reflects the history of Hazaribagh. Situated at a distance of 22 kilometers from Hazaribagh, Padma Fort is the historical fort of the descendants of Ramgarh Raja Ram Narayan Singh. Tourists come here from far and wide to visit. But, this fort, which once had the grandeur and splendor of a palace, is turning into ruins today.
There used to be a convoy of imported vehicles
Ramgarh Raj was established by Baghdev Singh in the 14th century. Its first capital was Urda, after which the capital was shifted to Badam in 1642. Then in 1670 it was shifted to Ramgarh, in 1772 to Ichak and in 1873 its capital was changed from Ichak to Padma. This fort was built at the same time. Local people say that it took 30 years to build this fort.
Such were the pomp and show
From 1873 to 1970, the grandeur of this fort was worth seeing. There used to be a big ground outside the palace, where the convoy of imported vehicles of the king used to stay. Elephants used to welcome the visitors at the gate. In those days, a power house was ordered from England for the palace, from where electricity was supplied to the entire palace.
Movies were shown everyday
Historian Vijay Singh says that Brahmadev Narayan Singh built this fort. At that time, the beauty of this palace was worth seeing, there were about 150 rooms in this palace. 2000 people used to live in the palace throughout the year to work. At that time, a cinema theater was built in the palace, where films were shown every evening. Local people used to come here and watch films.
First choice for pre wedding
Today Padma Fort has become the first choice for pre-wedding. People come here to do their pre-wedding shoot. Many people also come to this palace to roam around, but this palace is slowly turning into ruins. Kamakhya Narayan Singh was the last king of Ramgarh Raj. Now Saurabh Narayan Singh is the successor of Ramgarh Raj, but he also did not try to preserve the fort. Some area of this fort has been given to Jharkhand Police, where training camps are run. Apart from this, National Sports Authority has also been built in this complex. The entire land is lying vacant.
