According to the website Oddity Central, in a state called Chiapas in Mexico, people drink Coca-Cola like water. Here, the price of Coke is also almost the same as water. This is the reason why people here do not drink it just because of a sweet treat but instead of water to keep themselves hydrated. Actually, refreshing drinks like Coke and Pepsi were brought here for the first time in 1960. Since religious leaders started using it in religious meetings instead of firewater, people associated it with religion. Gradually, its plant was set up here in San Cristobal de Las Casas. In such a situation, its price came down a lot and people started buying and drinking it.
A man drinks 821 liters of coke
For the last 5 decades, people here are addicted to drinking Coca-Cola. Be it children or old people, they cannot do without it. On an average, every person in the state drinks 821 liters of Coca-Cola every year, while 2 to 2.5 liters of coke is consumed per person every day. Doctor Marcos of Chiapas says that the addiction to coke in the state is such that even 1-2 year old children drink it daily and in 3 percent of cases, even 6 month old children drink coke. However, 3000 people die every year from diabetes alone. People’s teeth get spoiled, despite this the addiction does not decrease.
