How did the condom get its name?
Let us tell you that in the year 1963, the government had planned to distribute condoms on a large scale in the country for the first time. Then Sarkar wanted to name its condom brand ‘Kamaraj’. Most people would know that in India, Kamadeva is considered the god of sexual attraction. Kamadev is also called Kamaraj. ‘Kama’ means ‘sex’ and ‘kama vasna’ means ‘desire for sex’.
How was the name of condom changed
According to media reports, this was a suitable name for condoms at that time. But Sarkar had to abandon this name and name his condom brand ‘Nirodh’. This name was also the brainchild of an IIM student. Nirodh means protection.
Why was the name not named Kamaraj
Now the question is why Sarkar did not name the condom Kamaraj. Sarkar did not name his condom brand Kamaraj because the president of the ruling party at that time was K. Kamaraj. K. Kamaraj was one of the biggest leaders in Congress after Nehru. Not only this, he was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu twice between April 1954 and October 1963. It is said that after the death of Nehru, Kamaraj played an important role in making Lal Bahadur Shastri and then Indira Gandhi the Prime Minister. This is the reason why the name of condom was changed from Kamaraj to Nirodh at that time.

According to reports, Kamaraj, who came from a poor family, was himself a school dropout. But he had done so much work in the field of education that now his birthday is celebrated as ‘Education Development Day’ in the whole of Tamil Nadu.
