There are continuous protests against the installation of prepaid electricity meters in Sitamarhi district. The workers who have come to install prepaid meters are facing the brunt of this. Actually, as per the government’s order, the department is installing prepaid meters in all the houses. However, people complain that the bill of prepaid meter is very high, which is 10 times more than the normal meter. Regarding this, electricity consumers are creating ruckus everywhere from village to city. The latest case is of Nanpur block. Where consumers created ruckus against the team that came to install prepaid electricity meters in Janipur Panchayat.
Seeing the protest of the consumers, the 112 police team reached Janipur and pacified the matter. At the same time, the electricity department team had to return due to protest from the Panchayat. The video of this matter also went viral on social media. According to the viral video, the electricity department team reached Janipur to install prepaid meters. The people there informed the chief representative Anupam Kumar Bambam about this. He asked the people not to install the meter, after which the ruckus started.
The chief representative alleged that by installing prepaid meters, the government wants to deprive the poor of electricity facilities. In this scheme, arbitrary amount is charged by the department. Electricity is cut off even at 12 midnight without any notice. Due to this, a large number of consumers in the block area are opposing it.
At the same time, the SDO of the electricity department said that we are complying with the government’s order, we will install prepaid meters for those who want them. Apart from this, meters will not be installed forcibly at anyone’s place. It is being told that there was a lot of ruckus from both sides on the spot. Here, the electricity department team alleged assault. At the same time, the police reached the spot and started investigating the matter.
