But last year, a woman surprised the whole world by marrying herself with much fanfare. Influencer and model Suellen Carey took the unique decision of marrying herself in a ceremony in London last year. Now she has surprised people with another big decision. Now she has decided to divorce herself.
Suellen, 36, caught the attention of the media around the world after she celebrated the bizarre festival – called sologamy – with her 400,000 Instagram followers. Suellen, originally from Brazil but now living in London, even went through couples therapy herself to try to keep her marriage alive.
But recently she opened up about her divorce, admitting that there were times when she felt lonely. Now, she is ready to give monogamy a try, but still doesn’t regret her solo adventures. “I realised that self-analysis and reflection is necessary,” she said.

“It’s important to know when to end a cycle. Commitments to yourself can have their own challenges, like dealing with the expectation to be perfect all the time. I realized I was putting a lot of pressure on myself and it sometimes exhausted me. I realized it’s important to accept your flaws, even in your marriage to yourself,” Suellen said.
Suellen had 10 sessions with a therapist to deal with the issues. But she came to the conclusion that divorce was her only option. Suellen says she is now ready to ‘move on’. She said, “I realised that my monogamy was a process of healing and self-discovery. I have decided that now is the time to open my heart to new possibilities, including the chance to find a partner.”
