president droupadi murmu remarks on rape crime against women Criminals roaming fearlessly and victim living in fear

President Draupadi Murmu: President Draupadi Murmu released the new flag and logo of the Supreme Court at the closing ceremony of the two-day District Judiciary National Conference held at Bharat Mandapam. During this, President Draupadi Murmu said that the delay in court decisions in heinous crimes like rape makes the common man feel that the judicial process lacks sensitivity. Also, she called for a change in the culture of adjournments in the courts.

President spoke on delay in getting justice

The President said that pending cases are a big challenge before the judiciary. He said, “When court verdicts in heinous crimes like rape come after a generation, the common man feels that the judicial process lacks sensitivity. Programs like special Lok Adalat week should be organized more frequently to settle pending cases. All stakeholders have to find a solution to this problem by giving priority to it. ”

‘Criminals roaming freely and fearlessly’

“In some cases, people with means roam around fearlessly and freely even after committing crimes,” the President lamented. Those who suffer from their crimes remain scared and terrified, as if they, the poor fellows, have committed a crime. Poor people in villages are afraid of going to court. They participate in the judicial process of the court only under compulsion. Often they tolerate injustice silently, because they feel that fighting for justice can make their life more miserable.” He said that going to court even once away from the village becomes a huge mental and financial pressure for such people.

President Murmu said, “In such a situation, many people cannot even imagine how much pain the poor people suffer due to the culture of adjournments. Every possible measure should be taken to change this situation. Many people know about white coat hypertension, due to which people’s blood pressure increases in the hospital environment. Similarly, a common man’s stress increases in the court environment, which is known as black coat syndrome.” She said that due to this nervousness, common people are often unable to say even those things in their favor which they already know and want to say.

‘Improvement in the infrastructure of the judiciary’

President Draupadi Murmu Said, “It is the moral responsibility of every judge and judicial officer of the country to respect religion, truth and justice. This moral responsibility is the lighthouse of the judiciary at the district level. District level courts determine the image of the judiciary in the minds of crores of citizens. Therefore, providing justice to the people with sensitivity and promptness and at low cost through district courts is the basis of the success of our judiciary. There are many challenges before the judiciary, which require coordinated efforts for their solution.

The President said, “The feeling of faith and reverence towards justice has been part of the country’s tradition, in which judges are also given the status of God. In the last few years, there has been a significant improvement in the infrastructure, facilities, training and availability of human resources of the judiciary at the district level, but a lot still remains to be done in all these areas.

President Murmu also suggested efforts to take care of the health and education of the children of women imprisoned in jails. She said that helping improve the thinking and mental health of juvenile offenders and providing them useful life skills and free legal aid should also be our priority.
