Union Health Ministry approves tuberculosis new treatment which small but more powerful


There is big news for TB patients. Now they can be treated in a new way, which is shorter but more effective. The Union Health Ministry gave approval on Friday (September 6) to start this treatment. Let us tell you that the central government has set a target of 2025 to eradicate this disease completely.

This is how you will be treated

According to the information, the new treatment for TB will be done with BPaLM. BPaLM is a combination of four medicines Bedaquiline, Pretomanid, Linezolid and Moxifloxacin. It is claimed that this medicine has proved to be safer, more effective and better than the previous MDR-TB treatment process. Let us tell you that the treatment of traditional MDR-TB may have to be done for 20 months and there is a risk of serious side effects. It is believed that this step can prove to be very important to achieve the national goal of eliminating TB from the country.

What changes have happened in the medicine?

Let us tell you that the new anti-TB drug pretomanid has been included in the combination of bedaquiline and linezolid (with or without moxifloxacin). Pretomanid has already been approved and licensed by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) in India. After getting approval from the Health Ministry to start the treatment, 75,000 drug-resistant TB patients in the country will be able to benefit from it. This will take less time for the patients to recover. Also, the cost of the medicine will also be reduced.

Health Ministry gave this information

According to information received from the Ministry of Health, the Department of Health and Family Welfare has ensured the validation of the new TB treatment in consultation with the Department of Health Research, in which the evidence has been thoroughly reviewed by subject experts of the country. The Department of Health and Family Welfare has also conducted a health technology assessment through the Department of Health Research, so that this MDR-TB treatment option is safe and cost effective.
