Super Typhoon Yagi in China: The powerful storm ‘Yagi’ has caused massive destruction in China. In view of the intensity of the cyclone, a red alert has been issued in entire southern China. The Meteorological Department has warned of floods in some rivers of two of its provinces after hitting the southern Hainan island province, which has caused widespread concern about loss of life and property. China’s National Meteorological Center has issued a warning in the southern areas on Friday morning in view of the possibility of a powerful storm (typhoon) ‘Yagi’.
According to the official news agency Xinhua, Typhoon Yagi is the 11th typhoon to hit this year. It hit the coast near Wengtian town in Hainan province at around 4:20 pm local time on Friday. At that time its speed was more than 234 kilometers per hour.

There may be torrential rain in these areas
China’s Ministry of Water Resources warned that the Nandu River and Changhua River in Hainan, and the Jianjiang River and Moyan River in Guangdong province could overflow from Friday to Saturday as the storm is expected to bring torrential rains to parts of southern China.
Millions of people were evacuated to safer places
The southern province of Guangdong had to evacuate more than 570,000 people as powerful typhoon Yagi was expected to make a second landfall on Friday evening (local time), Xinhua news agency quoted the provincial meteorological department as saying. It said Yagi is forecast to move northwest and hit coastal areas from Wenchang in Hainan to Leizhou in Guangdong province.

Officials said at least 72 of the province’s 94 passenger and waterways and more than 140 pairs of high-speed trains have been suspended in the wake of the storm, while schools in 10 cities have also been closed. The Ministry of Water Resources has raised the emergency response for floods in Guangdong and Hainan to level-III in preparation for the potential threat. Along with this, four task forces have been sent to assist in dealing with potential floods in Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan.
