Acid Attack Survivors Cashless Treatment: Acid attack survivors will get cashless treatment in Delhi. The Delhi government may soon bring a policy for this facility in the private hospitals of the city. Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj has directed the Health and Family Welfare Department to make a plan regarding this. Funds have been given from Delhi Arogya Kosh to cover all the expenses during the treatment of acid attack survivors, which includes all types of surgeries, big and small.
What is the plan of Delhi government
This decision came after Brave Souls Foundation, an NGO working for acid attack survivors, met Saurabh Bhardwaj along with AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh. However, in 2015, the Supreme Court had made it mandatory for all private hospitals across the country to provide free treatment to acid attack victims. However, the Delhi government is bringing its own policy in which complete treatment will be provided to acid attack survivors.
Help will be available from Delhi Arogya Kosh
An official said that in view of the costly treatment, the AAP government has directed the health department to fund it from the Delhi Arogya Kosh. However, the Delhi Arogya Kosh works as a registered society. The needy are given assistance of up to Rs 5 lakh for the treatment of any disease in a government hospital.
Officials said that the minister has issued a directive that road accident survivors should be given emergency treatment and admission in all hospitals in the capital like the ‘Farishte Dilli Ke’ scheme. So that their family members do not have to wander here and there for treatment, a nodal officer will also be appointed for this.
Challenges faced by acid attack survivors
Delhi officials said that acid attack survivors face many challenges. Their rehabilitation has always been a challenge. In view of this, Saurabh Bhardwaj has asked the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation to explore the possibilities of making a policy for the allotment of shops, haats or stalls.
