A youth from Jyora, Nawabganj, beat up another youth from Sarvodayanagar after he immersed the Ganesh idol in the Ganga at the Kanpur barrage and got gulal in his eyes. People present nearby intervened and pacified the matter, but while returning, the people of Sarvodayanagar were again attacked by the other party. The youth and women were beaten up. The glass of the loader was broken. Many people were injured in the attack.
The police which reached the spot sent the injured to the hospital and arrested four of the attackers. In Sarvodayanagar of Kakadev police station area, the youths of the area had installed the Ganesh idol in a pandal. On Sunday, the youths and women placed the Ganesh idol on a loader and took it to the barrage for immersion. There they had an argument with the youths of Paramiyapurva of Nawabganj over who would immerse the idol first in the Ganga. During this, the youths of Sarvodayanagar threw gulal, which went into the eye of a youth from Paramiyapurva.
