Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation is going to take a big step towards women empowerment. Under this, the corporation will directly recruit women conductors on contract at its own level. For this, relaxation will be given in the provision of hiring conductors through service providers from the Gem portal. The related proposal will be placed before the cabinet soon.
At present, the service provider agency is selected through the Gem portal to hire conductors in roadways. Conductors are hired through this agency. According to the cabinet proposal, it takes three months to complete this process. This creates problems in operating buses during peak season.
Keeping this problem in mind, the corporation will now hire women on contract for the post of conductor at its own level. Women having certificates from Uttar Pradesh Rural Livelihood Mission, UP Skill Development Mission, NCC, NSS and Scout and Guide will get the opportunity. The priority list will be prepared on the basis of intermediate marks.
Roadways needs three thousand more conductors. At present, there is a system of payment on per km basis. This rate is Rs 1.69 per km for ordinary buses and Rs 2.25 per km for AC buses.
