India skips vote on UN General Assembly on a resolution demanding that Israel end its unlawful presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory

India Abstains UN General Assembly Resolution Demand: India has once again shown its friendship with Israel. India on Wednesday abstained from voting on a resolution in the United Nations General Assembly that demanded that Israel end its illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territory within 12 months without any delay.

The 193-member General Assembly accepted the proposal after voting. 124 countries voted in favor of the proposal, 14 voted against it and 43 countries, including India, abstained from it.

These countries did not take part in the voting

Countries that abstained included Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, Nepal, Ukraine and the United Kingdom. While the UK abstained despite supporting a two-state solution, Japan voted in favour, saying Tokyo attaches great importance to the International Court of Justice and its work. Japan said Israeli settlement activities undermine progress towards a two-state solution. Israel and the US were among the countries that voted against the resolution.

Israel was given 12 months time

Let us tell you that the resolution passed on Wednesday demanded that Israel should end its illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territory without any delay, which is a wrongful act of a continuing character that reflects its international responsibility. The resolution also says that Israel should vacate those areas before 12 months.

Criticism of the Israeli government in the resolution

The resolution, drafted on the Palestinian side, also strongly condemned the Israeli Government’s “continued total disregard and violations of its obligations under the UN Charter, international law and relevant UN resolutions, and stressed that such violations seriously threaten regional and international peace and security.”
