Junk Food Side Effects : A warning has come for those who eat junk and ultra-processed food like pizza, burgers, fries, packed chips, red meat, bacon, hot dogs and sausages. Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital found in a study that even a small amount of ultra-processed foods increases the risk of memory loss and stroke.

Recently, a research was presented at the International Conference of Alzheimer’s Association in America. This research, which lasted for 43 years, showed that those who eat ultra-processed food in large quantities have a serious risk of dementia. In which memory and thinking ability are badly affected.

What the Massachusetts General Hospital report says

This research, published in Neurology under the leadership of Dr. W. Taylor Kimberly, found that the side effects of ultra-processed foods have been explained. Earlier research had found junk food responsible for obesity, heart disease and diabetes. However, in the new study, it has been linked to memory.

Junk food affects mental health

Dr. Kimberly said that her research found that junk food or ultra-processed foods have a bad effect on the brain. However, more research is still needed on this. This research did not prove a link between eating ultra-processed foods and the risk of cognitive decline or stroke, but it shows the importance of a healthy diet for brain health as we age.

What the research found

In this research, eating more ultra-processed foods increased the risk of stroke by 8 percent. The study also found that the less quantity of such things consumed, the risk of loss of thinking ability can be reduced by 12 percent and the risk of stroke can be reduced by 9 percent.

What are ultra processed foods?

Foods that have been highly processed and contain additives to enhance the taste are called ultra-processed foods. They are low in fibre, vitamins, protein and minerals and are loaded with sugar, sodium and saturated fat. These include potato chips, soda, energy drinks, bacon, sausages, chicken nuggets, instant soup mixes, ketchup, etc.
