Weather Update 16 January: Due to the rains and icy winds on the mountains, mercury fell once again in North West India including Delhi. On Sunday (January 15), Delhi’s temperature fell below 5 degrees in 24 hours. Safdarjung in the capital recorded a minimum temperature of 4.7 degrees. Jafarpur recorded 2.6 degree Celsius, Lodhi Road 3.8 and Ayanagar recorded 3 degree Celsius.

The night temperature came down significantly in Rajasthan, where the minimum temperature was recorded at -2.5 degree Celsius in Churu and 1.2 degree Celsius in Bikaner. According to the Meteorological Department, from January 16 to 18, cold wave conditions have been predicted in northwestern India.

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for three days from 16 to 18 January in the capital Delhi. In Yellow Alert, people are asked to take extra precautions regarding cold. When the minimum temperature goes below 4.5 degrees, the Meteorological Department marks it as a cold wave.

Prior to this, continuous cold wave conditions were observed in Delhi from January 5 to 9, which was the longest cold wave in a decade.

By January 17, the minimum temperature is expected to drop by about 2 degree Celsius in many parts of northwest and central India. After this, there is a possibility of a gradual increase of 3-5 degree Celsius during 18 to 20 January. There is a possibility of a fall in the minimum temperature by 2-3°C over East India till January 17 and thereafter a gradual increase of 2-3°C during January 18-20.

According to estimates, in many parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi till the 17th and after that on the 18th, the condition of cold wave to severe cold wave will prevail in different areas. During this, there is a possibility of cold wave conditions in different parts of Himachal Pradesh.

During January 15 to 18, there will be frost conditions at isolated places in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.

There was no report of fog in Delhi on Sunday. According to the forecast, there is a possibility of light fog in the capital on Monday morning, while there is a possibility of moderate fog on both Tuesday and Wednesday. It is recorded as moderate fog when visibility is 200-500 meters and dense fog when visibility is less than 200 meters.
