Mahmood was born on a special day

On 29 September 1932, the second child of the famous actor of that time, Mumtaz Ali and Latifunnisa was born. Name given as Mahmood Ali. Mumtaz Ali fondly called him Annu. They considered him lucky and this was proved later.

The actor father was also happy because his son was born a year after the release of the country’s first talking film ‘Alam Ara’ and the coincidence was such that Mumtaz Ali was born a year before the release of the first silent film ‘Raja Harishchandra’. Had happened.

When Mahmood slapped his father

Then there came a time when the son whom I trusted the most broke my heart. What happened that the father was so happy on the birth of his son? The one who was considering his son as a support in his old age was slapped by the married son!

Hanif Zaveri, author of ‘Mahmood – Man of Many Moods’ has given the reason for this. According to this book, Mumtaz Ali was going through a bad phase. Many people were sitting there. Going to brothels and drinking alcohol had become his pastime.

Addiction pushed the house into ruin. Gradually everything was sold, from utensils to his wife’s expensive saree. Life began to be spent in the shadow of poverty. The responsibility of the house was on the shoulders of Mahmood. Whatever came handy, he took it. In 1953, he also married Meena Kumari’s sister Madhu. Responsibilities increased and so did stress! He was also worried from his father’s side.

Then came that day which changed their world. Mahmood was in the house. The father came in an intoxicated state and started beating his wife Latifunnisa. This became unbearable for Mahmood. He tried to stop me a lot but the father did not stop hitting him. Suddenly his ‘Annu’ slapped his father hard. There was silence in the house. But what happened the next moment broke Mahmood.

Got the title of King of Comedy after a lot of struggle

The mother slapped her son hard and asked him to leave the house at that very moment. That too when Mahmood’s wife was about to become a mother. Mahmood used to drive at that time. Father’s sister ‘B Maa’ was also with him when he left with his wife.

Endured a lot. Play small roles. Years of struggle ended in 1959. The film Chhoti Behen was released. It was a super hit and their car took off. He got the title of King of Comedy of Bollywood and films started selling in his name. On July 23, 2004, this laughing artist left this world.
