Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that the use of firecrackers has a bad effect on the air quality. The aim behind the decision to ban firecrackers is to ensure that Delhi’s air remains breathable.

The Delhi government is strict to control air pollution during winter in the capital. The government has decided to impose a blanket ban on the manufacture, sale, storage and use of all types of firecrackers within Delhi. This ban has come into effect with immediate effect. All restrictions will remain in effect till January 1, 2025. As per the directive issued by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, online sales and delivery will also be banned.
