Sharad Purnima is called the full moon date of Ashwin month. Its significance is the most special among all the 12 full moon dates of the year. This time Sharad Purnima is on 16 October. On this day, Goddess Lakshmi will arrive in the moonlight.
According to Astrologer Krishna K Sharma, it is believed that Goddess Lakshmi appeared on this day, hence this day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Goddess Lakshmi. On this day, Mother Lakshmi is in a very happy mood and comes to visit the earth in the moonlight at night.
It is believed that the devotees whom she sees engrossed in worship and singing bhajans and kirtans are blessed with special blessings. That means Mother Lakshmi sees who is awake and worshiping her.
Therefore this full moon date is also called Kojagiri Purnima. On this day the moon also becomes full in its 16 phases and showers nectar. By consuming kheer kept in the rays of the moon, many diseases are cured and one also gets the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi.
