Dog Temple: Here dog is worshiped as God, the story is related to this incident that happened 200 years ago.

Jaipur: Many folk deities are worshiped in Rajasthan. There have been many folk deities here like Ramdev ji, Tejaji and Pabuji Maharaj, who did many good works for the human society. For this reason, today people consider him as a god and worship him. But there is a unique temple in Jaipur rural where dog is worshiped as God. Not only this, devotees also come here and make wishes. What is even more special is that the worship of this temple is done by a woman priest.

Dog Temple Location
A dog temple has been built on the banks of Sambhar Lake, 7 kilometers away from Sambhar town of Jaipur Rural, where a large number of devotees come with prayers. This platform-like temple has shiny vermillion on the symbolic dog statue, which has been beautifully decorated. The temple of Maharaj Pitha Baba is also situated nearby. It is said that the devotees who come to see Peetha Baba Maharaj, definitely pay their obeisance at the dog temple.

Dog confronts dacoits with owner
Temple priest Santosh Devi told Local 18 that 200 years ago, Saint Pitha Ram, resident of Seva village, had come to Sambhar market to buy material for his wedding. Along with him, his dog and his brother-in-law, who belonged to the Muslim community, also came to Sambhar. Pitha Ram was going back to his village in his bullock cart after purchasing wedding items, during which his Muslim friend stopped there. After this, dacoits attacked on the banks of the lake 7 kilometers away and looted all the goods.

Pitha Ram and the bravery of the dog
In this fight, Pitha Ram and his dog killed all the dacoits, but one dacoit ambushed them and attacked them from behind and cut his neck. After that the dog also killed some attackers. Now the dog was trying to wake up Pitha Ram, but he did not wake up. After sitting there for some time, the dog took the turban tied on the head of Pitha Ram, which was drenched in blood, and reached the family members of Seva village.

Temple as a symbol of devotion to Lord
When the villagers saw that Pitha Ram’s turban was stained with blood, they understood that something untoward had happened. All the family members along with the dog came to the same place where Pitha Ram’s neck was cut and all the dacoits were also lying unconscious. Shortly thereafter the dog also died. Everyone considered that place sacred and as a symbol of devotion to Lord, a dog temple was built at that place and the temple of Pitha Baba Maharaj was built next to it. Even today, the idol kept at the dog temple is worshiped and devotees from far and wide come here with prayers.
