Two and a half years of war… where did one crore people go? There was a big decline in the population of Ukraine after the Russian attacks, UN’s tension increased

More than two years have passed since the war between Russia and Ukraine started. At the international level, this has become a matter of biggest concern at this time. Now such data has come regarding the war, which has increased the tension of the United Nations even more. The UN said on Tuesday (October 22, 2024) that Ukraine’s population has decreased by 8 million in these two years and by 10 million people since 2014.

Russia attacked Ukraine for the first time in 2014. Florence Bauer, Regional Director of the UN Population Fund for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, said that since 2014, the population of Ukraine as a whole has decreased by 10 million, while after the 2022 attack, the population has decreased by 8 million in just two years. Went. However, it was also told in the report that this data has not been taken from the census. There was no census in Ukraine during this period.

UN Population Fund quoting the National Statistical Office said that in the year 2014, the population of Ukraine was 45 million. At that time, Russia had captured only Crimea, but in February 2022, the Russian attack was on a large scale. In this, the entire Ukraine was attacked and at that time the population decreased to 43 million, but by 2024 this figure has reached 35 million.

Florence Bauer has given this information in a conversation with journalists. He told that many factors are responsible for this change in population. Birth rate and migration are the main reasons for population decline. He said that Ukraine is one of the European countries with the lowest birth rate. Here on an average a woman gives birth to only one child. This is the lowest birth rate in the entire world.

Florence Bauer further said that people have also shifted to other countries for jobs and better lifestyle. Especially the young generation. Florence Bauer said that in the last two and a half years, 67 lakh people have fled the country as refugees. However, he also says that thousands of people have suffered casualties in the war that has been going on for two and a half years. The death toll figures have never been released by Russia and Ukraine. Although the death toll has never been released by Russia and Ukraine, in August 2023, US officials had estimated the death of 70 thousand Ukrainian service members in the attacks.
