A Pakistani court has jailed former Prime Minister in the Toshakhana corruption case related to alleged illegal sale of government gifts. imran khan His wife Bushra Bibi was granted bail on Wednesday, almost nine months after her arrest. According to the news of ‘Geo News’, Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb of Islamabad High Court granted bail to 50-year-old Bushra Bibi on a bond of Rs 10 lakh.
This decision of the court has come as a relief to Bushra Bibi, who was arrested on January 31 after a court convicted her in a corruption case and sentenced the couple to 14 years of imprisonment. During the hearing, Justice Aurangzeb questioned the investigating officer of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) about the need for future interrogation of Bushra Bibi. The officer confirmed that additional investigation was not required, after which the justice granted bail. A source told ‘Geo News’ that Bushra Bibi is not wanted or arrested in any other case, hence she can be released after depositing the bail bond and completing the necessary procedures.
What did PTI say on bail?
Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party confirmed the release in a WhatsApp message, saying, “Former first lady Bushra Bibi has been released from jail.” The message also said that his initial arrest occurred on January 31, when he and Khan were convicted in a corruption case and sentenced to 14 years in prison. In the Toshakhana case, it was alleged that Imran Khan and his third wife Bushra Bibi were involved in corruption, making profits from the sale of gifts received from foreign dignitaries.
Can there be further inquiry also?
During the bail hearing, Justice Aurangzeb asked the investigating officer of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) whether there could be any need for further interrogation of Bushra Bibi. On this the officer said that there is no need for further inquiry.
Bushra Bibi’s bail is a big relief for PTI and Imran Khan. Especially at a time when Shehbaz Sharif’s regime has gained control over the ruling institutions of Pakistan.
