On Diwali, the owl, which is considered to be the vehicle of Goddess Lakshmi, is not only worshiped but there is also a fear of hunting it for Tantra Kriya. The Forest Department is taking special caution regarding this. The Divisional Forest Officer has put personnel on duty to monitor those who hunt owls.
According to mythological belief, owl is the vehicle of Goddess Lakshmi and is an indicator of prosperity and good fortune. It also has great importance in tantric activities. Generally, incidents of poaching and smuggling come to light during Diwali. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has identified the owl as an endangered species.
This year also the Forest Department has issued an alert to stop hunting of owls. Departmental officials have issued clear instructions that special attention should be kept on incidents of owl hunting and smuggling during Diwali. The Divisional Forest Officer has also appealed to the general public that if any such activity is seen happening anywhere then they should inform the police, forest officer or active NGO.
