Researchers surveyed Chinese university students and found that if someone’s childhood is full of bad memories, then they are more likely to get addicted to these shorts videos. This can also cause them many problems. Bad memories of childhood can include incidents like mental or physical abuse, neglect, family problems, violence against a loved one. To divert attention from this, initially these videos are watched, which later become a complete addiction.

Video addiction to ignore problems

Among the participants in this study, those college students who were not addicted to shorts videos were satisfied with their lives despite childhood problems. Researchers found that among people who are not satisfied in life, addiction to TikTok and Instagram reels was more visible. These short-form videos gave him a way to get away from his problems. Whenever something triggered him at home, to deal with it he started watching shorts and reels, due to which his dependence increased, which later became addiction.
