1.20 lakh students have taken admission
So far, 1.20 lakh students have taken admission for undergraduate and post graduate courses in Delhi University’s School of Open Learning. Of these, 1.7 lakh admissions have been made for graduate courses while 50,000 admissions have been made for post graduate courses.
That’s why the date has been extended
According to the school’s Director of Open Learning, Professor Payal Mago, most of the admissions have already been done. However, the date of application has been extended only because the Distance Education Board of the University Grant Commission has extended the last date for all online courses. Keeping this in view, School of Open Learning has also extended the last date of admission.
This will be a big challenge for the students
Even though the School of Open Learning is talking about taking admission by November 15, it is not preparing to organize any new classes for new students. The school director has already made it clear that the children who are now taking admission will have to study from the online video classes or recorded classes of the School of Open Learning website or YouTube channel so that they can complete their syllabus.
Study material will be easily available
The director says that the soft copy of the study material is available on the website from day one. Hard copies have started being available from last month. He told that every year only 40 to 45 percent students take hard copy of the study material while the rest of the students study from online study material only. This year 55 percent students have taken hard copy of study material. Say that the entire material is available in sufficient quantity. Any student who wants a hard copy will get it.
Student organizations raised questions
Many student organizations have expressed objection to extending the admission date. Questions have been raised on the management through mass mailing and posting on social media platform X. He says that if admissions are done till November then how will the student complete the 6 month semester and how will he prepare and give the exam without study material. Demanded that exams should be held only after the entire class is over. A student organization has accused the school’s management of open learning of mismanagement.
