The election battle has started in Karhal. It seems as if every candidate is eager to use all the arrows in his quiver. In SP’s stronghold, the party’s candidate Tej Pratap Singh Yadav is facing challenge from his uncle Anujesh Singh Yadav. The fight here between SP and BJP is only to reduce the difference between victory and defeat. What will be the result? The Election Commission will tell on November 23, but for most voters the picture is clear from now on.
We traveled two and a half hours from Lucknow via Agra-Lucknow Expressway on Sunday and reached Karhal town directly. While the four-lane road dividing the town into two parts tells the story of development, it also gives a glimpse of the confidence it has generated among the local residents.
Vimal Chaturvedi, found here, is a very vocal voter. It is said that this time Karhal is preparing to be free from the chains of slavery. SP has just given ticket to brother, then will make his daughter contest from here. Like this, other people will not get a chance.
Praveen Rathore and Nizamuddin do not agree with him (Vimal). He believes that history will be repeated here. In the elections held after 2002, SP has been continuously winning from here. Sobran Singh won on BJP ticket in 2002.
