Police unearthed a major incident of liquor smuggling during the voting process during Ramgarh assembly by-election in Kaimur district. Excise police recovered 2,141 liters of English liquor during checking of a mini oil tanker at Barora check post. Police have also arrested two smugglers in this case.
According to the police, liquor smugglers were planning to bring huge quantity of liquor from Uttar Pradesh and consume it at Bihar border. They had brought it hidden in an oil tanker, so that they could avoid police checking during the elections. But during checking of the vehicle at Barora check post, a consignment of liquor was recovered from the tanker. The arrested smugglers have been identified as Umashankar Pandey and Dayashankar Pandey, residents of Bhada village under Bagen police station area of Buxar district.
Kaimur Superintendent of Police Lalit Mohan Sharma said that security had been tightened near the polling stations to prevent such smuggling. Intensive checking was being done at all border check posts. Police have started further action and both the accused are being detained and interrogated.
