Jawaharlal Nehru University: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has launched an optional course based on Indian Knowledge Traditions (IKT) for students of all courses under a new initiative. In this course, students of engineering, management, science and other subjects will study the traditional knowledge systems of India. According to university officials, this course will be made available in all schools and centers and each department will adapt it as per the needs of its area.
Indian knowledge traditions means indigenous knowledge systems developed in India over centuries. These include Vedic science, ancient engineering, traditional medicine, philosophical texts, and socio-economic practices. The University Grants Commission (UGC) is already working to promote such courses in educational institutions across the country.
Sources said that engineering students will be made to study ancient Indian engineering practices, such as ancient architecture and water management systems. Similarly, management students will study the economic and administrative systems of ancient India. Which includes Kautilya’s “Arthashastra” and the business guild system.

New centers established
JNU has also recently established new centers for Hindu, Jain and Buddhist studies. These centers will encourage research and study on traditional Indian philosophical and religious traditions. Apart from this, there are 13 schools on the campus, which run several centers dedicated to different academic subjects.

A JNU official said that the aim of this initiative is to introduce students to India’s intellectual heritage and moral values. The University believes that the study of these traditional knowledge systems will provide students with a comprehensive approach to modern subjects.
