Nurse Megha James was on duty when the fire broke out in the SNCU ward of Jhansi Medical College. He threw himself into rescue efforts and played the role of a hero by saving many infants. Even when her salwar got burnt, she did not give up and with the help of others managed to rescue 14-15 children.

Facing the raging fire, James’s mind was working so fast that he was not worried about burning himself. Nurse Megha James said, “I had gone to get a syringe to give an injection to a child. When I came back I saw that the (oxygen) concentrator had caught fire. I called the ward boy, who came with a fire extinguisher.” Came and tried to put it out, but by then the fire had spread.
