Expansion
The special CBI court in the capital Lucknow has sentenced five clerks of the Secondary Education Department, who fraudulently grabbed scholarships, to three years’ imprisonment and fine. This punishment has been given to five people, including Krishna Kumar, the then senior clerk of the District School Inspector’s office of Kanpur city, in two separate cases.

In the first case, the then senior clerks Krishna Kumar and Manoj Kumar Dwivedi have been sentenced to three years’ imprisonment each and a fine of Rs 60 thousand. In the second case, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Vinod Kumar Mishra, Suleman and Prem Singh alias Puti have been sentenced to three years imprisonment each along with a fine of Rs 1.20 lakh.
The first case was registered in 2002
Both the cases were registered on the orders of the High Court. CBI had registered the first case on 18 February 2002. It was told that the District Social Welfare Officer of Kanpur had released Rs 9 lakh 38264 for scholarship in 1997 to 1999.
The allegation was that the officers and employees of Kanpur’s District Social Welfare Department and District School Inspector’s Office, in collusion with the people, opened fake accounts and embezzled the money.
This is another case
In the second case, in the year 1999-2000, accused Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Suleman, Vinod Kumar Mishra and Prem Chandra, in connivance with other officers and employees, embezzled Rs 6 lakh 44 thousand of scholarship in the name of a fake college.
