But there is also a woman who left her job to become a housewife of the 1950s. 29-year-old Alexia Delaros was a working professional in a company. But now, she lives the life of the 1950s and says her only role is to look after her children.
She’s not the only one who has made such a bold choice. Alexia is part of a growing movement called ‘tradewives’, a recent Western culture that depicts a woman who believes in traditional gender roles and patriarchal marriage. Many women believe that choosing a traditional gender role in marriage does not make a woman lose her rights. Many of them choose to give up their careers to focus on their families.
According to Google Trends, the popularity of online searches for the term “tradewife” began to rise in mid-2018.
Alexia says she chose a stay-at-home life because as a child she felt neglected by her working mother. Alexia said, “My mom worked and she also enjoyed time with friends outside of our family home. I always wanted a more traditional model for my family. I liked the idea of the 50s family life, where the wife stayed home to take care of her husband and kids and the husband went out to work full time.”
She said, “I remember watching movies where women stay at home to cook and clean for their husbands, and I thought it was a romantic and sweet life. It is really a matter of summons with me. Alexia now stays home to cook, clean, run errands and mainly make sure her kids are happy and healthy while her husband goes to work
The 29-year-old woman is very active in her household chores and on social media. She keeps sharing photos related to her life from time to time for her followers. Now she believes that more women will turn to the tradewife lifestyle in the years to come. Alexia’s posts have always received mixed reactions from social media users. But she takes it all in her favor.
She said, “People comment to tell me that being a mother and wife is not a real job. Some people even tell me that I am turning back time by 50 years. However, it does not bother me because I know that the work I am doing is invaluable. If I go out to work, how expensive would it be to pay someone else to fulfill this role.”
