Under Operation Drishti, the police had installed 5484 CC cameras at 1952 places in all the police station areas of Ballia district. The administration claimed that this would help in curbing crime and keeping an eye on the activities. Due to lack of maintenance, 1261 cameras are not working. Many of these are bad and the angle of many has turned to the other side. Due to this, due to lack of identification of the criminals, there is difficulty in uncovering the incidents. In the past, 362 cases have been revealed with the help of CC cameras.

To crack down on criminals in the district, under Operation Drishti, CC cameras have been installed in highways, main roads, cities and towns with the help of banks, hotels, petrol pumps and other establishments. With their help, the police have identified 462 criminals and uncovered 362 incidents. Due to this, the incidents of bike theft and snatching had reduced. But now CCTV cameras are not working at some places due to recharge, at some places due to technical glitches and at some places due to rotation of the angle. In such a situation, due to the police not being able to get CCTV footage of incidents happening in towns and villages, they are facing difficulty in uncovering criminal incidents.

Two cases of snatching took place in Beltrod of Ubhaon police station last week. Earlier, three CC cameras were installed on this route, but due to non-functioning, the criminals could not be identified. Two cases of snatching have been revealed through CC cameras at TD College intersection and Chittu Pandey intersection road of the city.
