This information was immediately given to the officer of the District Child Protection Unit. After this, on the instructions of the Child Protection Unit, the team of Women and Child Development Corporation reached the wedding venue. Reaching the site of possible child marriage, he asked for evidence from the girl’s family regarding her age. The family could not present any valid document. Taking the matter seriously, DPM Kunal Kumar Singh and Center Administrator of One Stop Center Nazia Mumtaz took the initiative to stop the marriage on the spot. The team informed the situation to all senior officials and sent the girl to Sadar Hospital for age test.

The bond was filled by the girl’s family.

The team that arrived from Patna told the girl’s family that child marriage is a punishable crime, which comes under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. The administration also gave a strict warning that strict action will be taken against the culprits in such cases. Then a formal bond was also made to be filled by the girl’s family that they would marry the girl only after she completes 18 years of age. In this way the marriage was stopped even before the wedding procession arrived.
