Russia-Ukraine War: Ukraine has demonstrated its ability to intercept Russian hypersonic missiles, in which US-made Patriot missiles and SAMP-T systems from France and Italy play an important role. Ukraine says that it is capable of stopping missiles like Kinzhal and Zircon by about 25%. However, to successfully intercept it requires accurate intelligence, rapid identification and the simultaneous use of almost all 32 Patriot launchers.
The high speed and complex directional change capability of hypersonic missiles pose a major challenge in intercepting them. Despite this, sometimes these missiles cross Ukraine’s aerial defense system, due to which the Ukrainian army has to face problems.
The expense of Patriot missile becomes a headache!
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently indicated in a video that Ukraine has asked for long-range Tomahawk missiles from the US. Tomahawk missiles have a range of up to 2,500 kilometers (1,550 mi), which could prove to be more advantageous than any missile currently available to Ukraine. Acquiring such missiles will be seen as a big challenge for Russia in the war and a way to encourage it.
But there is noise in the media of European countries that Zelensky has continuously demanded missiles capable of shooting down Russian missiles from his allies. It is being said that the use of Patriot missiles is proving costly for Ukraine.
Is Zelensky suspicious of his colleagues?
Zelensky visited America last month, where he presented a ‘plan for victory’ to President Joe Biden. Through this plan, Zelensky tried to put pressure on Russia for talks. Some parts of this plan have been kept confidential.
Zelensky said, “When many countries supported this plan, now there are reports in the media that Ukraine wants many missiles, such as Tomahawk. But this was confidential information between the US and Ukraine. How to interpret the messages?”
He added, “This means there is no confidentiality between the partners.” According to Zelensky, only 10% of the military aid approved by the US Congress earlier this year has reached Ukraine.
