Process of making Tilkut
The Local 18 team spoke to artisans from Gaya to understand the process of making Tilkut. An artisan told that they reached Dhanbad on 13 January and started the work of making Tilkut from the same day. He says that this work will continue for about a month.
The artisans told that it takes about two hours to prepare 18 kg of Tilkut. The main ingredients used for this are sesame, jaggery and sugar.
Ingredients ratio: 800 grams of sesame is mixed in one kilogram of sugar.
Process:
First roast the sesame seeds for 25-30 minutes.
After this, jaggery syrup is prepared.
Tilkut is made by mixing sugar syrup and sesame seeds.
According to the artisans, the work of making Tilkut is done with precision and hard work, so that everyone likes its sweetness.
Experience and hard work of artisans
One of these artisans told that he has been doing this work for the last three years, while his colleagues have been in this profession for 14 years. The work of making Tilkut ends after Makar Sankranti. After this, these artisans get engaged in farming related work.
