There are five oceans on Earth – Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Arctic Ocean, Indian Ocean and Antarctic Ocean. Even if the waters of these five oceans are mixed, it will not be able to fill the water reservoir which has recently been discovered by NASA scientists. We are talking about such an ocean, which is located in the universe about 12 billion light years away from our Earth. It is considered to be the largest ocean so far. It is so big that even if all the water on earth is poured into it, it will still remain empty.
NASA has said that this water reservoir has been discovered in a quasar present in our universe, where a large amount of water is present. This ocean has been named APM 08279+5255. According to reports, it has been discovered by Matt Bradford, a scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
Why is there a ‘Thanos’ of the sea?
We are calling it Thanos of the ocean because this ocean is so huge that it contains 14 trillion times more water than all the oceans on Earth. Bradford, the scientist who discovered it, has said that the quasar in which it has been discovered is unique, because this water reservoir itself is generating a large amount of water. The quasar in which it has been discovered was discovered 50 years ago.
Why is search important?
Humans have been searching for water on planets other than Earth for a long time. We have found some water molecules on the Moon, but there is no concrete evidence of this. In such a situation, the discovery of this water reservoir is surprising for the scientists. This is an indication that water was present since the beginning of the universe and there may be more reserves of such water. Finding reserves of water in quasars also indicates that apart from water, other nutrients for life may also have been present in the beginning of the universe.
