Shubhman Gill Overrated: Shubman Gill was the highest run scorer in international cricket in the year 2023. That year he scored a total of 2,154 runs, but the next year there was a sharp decline in his form. In the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he was able to score only 93 runs in five innings against Australia. Now former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth has slammed Gill and called him ‘overrated’.

Gill made his Test debut in spectacular style against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21. In that series, he scored 259 runs in 6 innings at an excellent average of 51.8. But after that his average in 18 innings outside Asia has been only 17.64. The situation is such that after December 2022, Gill has not been able to touch the 40-run mark even once on foreign soil.

Chris Srikkanth said through his YouTube channel, “I have always believed that Shubman Gill is an overrated cricketer but no one listened to me. He is really a very overrated cricketer.” If we understand the meaning of overrated in Hindi, it is a player whose performance may not be anything special, yet he is constantly being kept in the list of top players. Srikanth also raised questions on the management of Team India as to why Gill is being given so many chances despite failing for a long time.

On one hand, he said that despite failing, Gill has got so many opportunities whereas the management should give opportunities to a player like Suryakumar Yadav. He said, when Gill is getting such long support, people would think that Suryakumar Yadav could have been given more chances.” Indian veteran Srikkanth also urged to give a chance to Rituraj Gaikwad and Sai Sudarshan.
