Jagjit Singh Dallewal Protest: Samyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political) leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has been on a fast unto death for the last 40 days. Due to this, his health is continuously deteriorating and all the farmers are praying for him. His fast is going on in Khanauri between Punjab and Haryana, in which many farmers are also sitting with him. Meanwhile, now once again that rule is being discussed, in which it is clearly stated that there is no permission or place for fast unto death in Sikhism. Farmers are uniting due to Dallewal
Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has already been a part of many big farmer movements. Dallewal also played a very important role in the nationwide movement against the agricultural laws brought by the Central Government. Now once again Dallewal has become the center of discussion and his fast has started uniting the farmers near Delhi again. Farmers are reaching Khanauri border with tractors to support Dallewal.
What does Sikhism say about fasting?
Now some people are talking about the rule of Sikhism, which states that fast unto death cannot be done. Regarding this, it has been said in Sikhism that fasting and self-immolation are not acceptable in Sikhism. Sikh religious guru says that there is no concept of fasting in Sikhism. That is why it is prohibited. However, when it comes to people’s interests, there is no opposition to it.

Akal Takht’s Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh has given his answer regarding this matter. In which he said, “There is no concept of hunger strike in Sikhism, but it is shocking to see that farmers who work tirelessly to feed humanity are being forced to go on hunger strike to get their demands met. Nothing could be more horrifying than this.”
Overall, the fast unto death of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has not been considered wrong by the Jathedar of Akal Takht. He has made it clear that even though there is no concept of this in Sikhism, all this has to be done under compulsion in the interest of the farmers.

The history of fast unto death of Sikh religious leaders and people in Punjab is very old. During 1920, farmer leader Seva Singh Thikriwala went on a hunger strike till he died in jail, which was widely discussed everywhere. Apart from this, Jatin Das, who supported Bhagat Singh, also went on a hunger strike for 63 days, due to which he died in jail.
Apart from all this, Sikh leaders like Darshan Singh Pheruman, Master Tara Singh, Sant Fateh Singh and Surat Singh Khalsa are also remembered for their fast unto death for several days. The names of these people are still recorded in golden letters in the history of Punjab.
