Surya Saptami 2023: Achala Saptami fast is observed on the Saptami of Shukla Paksha of Magh month i.e. 28 January 2023, Saturday. We also know it by the name of Rath Saptami Vrat Saptami. Sair Saptami is also another name of this fast. This fast is observed by women, it is believed that women are successful in pleasing the sun, that is why we also know this fast by the name of Sair Saptami.
This fast is a fast that gives freedom, good luck and beauty to women. Shathi’s fast is observed before Saptami. Method of Surya Saptami Vrat (Surya/Rath Saptami Vrat Vidhi)
- On this day one should wake up early in the morning and worship the Sun God.
- One should worship Sun God by going to the nearby river or pond.
- Along with this Arghya should be offered to the rising Sun. While offering Arghya, Surya Mantra or Gayatri Mantra should be chanted.
- After this, make an octagonal idol of Surya on the banks of the river and worship Shiva and Parvati by establishing Shiva and Parvati in the middle of it.
- Make sure to donate to a Brahmin after worship.
- At the same time, after worshiping Surya and Shiva come home after immersing Parvati.
Story of Surya Saptami Vrat (Surya/Rath Saptami Vrat Katha)
Once Yudhishthira asked Lord Shri Krishna, “Lord tell me which fast a woman can observe in Kaliyuga to become fortunate.” Shri Krishna narrated a story on this. In ancient times, a courtesan named Indumati once went to sage Vashishtha and said, “O Muniraj, I have not done any religious work till date. Tell me how I will get salvation. After listening to the prostitute, Vashishtha Muni said, “There is no fast greater than Achala Saptami which gives freedom, good luck and beauty to women.
That’s why you do this fast, you will be well. Indumati duly observed the fast on the basis of his teachings and went to heaven after leaving her body under its influence. There she was made the heroine of all Apsaras.
By observing this fast methodically, all wishes are fulfilled, along with happiness and prosperity also remains.
