Maharashtra: The sessions court in the country’s financial capital Mumbai has sentenced a fire department employee to life imprisonment. This man was accused of burning his wife to death for dowry. The court has sentenced the wife after torturing her for dowry, holding her guilty of setting her on fire. The matter is 6 years old.

According to the English website NDTV, Additional Sessions Judge AB Sharma on Wednesday held the accused Lakhan Gaikwad guilty under relevant sections of the IPC and found him guilty of murder of his wife as well as cruelty. The details of the order on the matter were given on Friday. According to Geeta Sharma, the public prosecutor in the case, Gaikwad had physically and mentally abused his wife.

When this demand was not met, Gaikwad started torturing his wife Manisha. Even he did not give his wife food and clothes to wear. At that time, the court had acquitted Manisha’s in-laws and 4 other accused due to lack of evidence. Now, while hearing the case, the sessions court sentenced the convict to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 7,000 on him.
