An attempt was made to kill a woman by burning her alive while she was sleeping in North-East Delhi’s Bhajanpura area. The accused set her on fire by pouring inflammable material on her bed while she was sleeping. Later, the latch was also installed from outside the room. The woman started crying out in pain. Somehow he extinguished the fire and informed the police.
The police reached the spot, took him out of the room in critical condition and took him to the hospital. The condition of the victim Imrana (30) remains critical at GTB Hospital. The victim alleges that her husband and in-laws tried to burn her alive. Bhajanpura police station has registered a case in this regard and arrested the woman’s husband.
According to information, Imrana lives with her family in Noor-e-Ilahi area of Bhajanpura. In the year 2010, Imrana was married to a young man named Rahisuddin. Presently Imrana has two children aged 10 and 12. It is alleged that after a few years of marriage, Imrana started being harassed for dowry. He was assaulted.
The matter increased so much that after getting fed up, Imrana started living in her maternal home. Relatives and kin made an agreement between husband and wife by persuading them. Imrana was coming back to her in-laws’ house again for some time. It is alleged that after sending the children to school on Saturday, Imrana lay down on the bed in her room. Meanwhile, her husband put inflammable material on the bed and set it on fire and locked the room from outside. When Imrana opened her eyes, she found herself surrounded by fire. But he did not lose courage. After extinguishing the fire, he informed the police through his phone. The police reached the spot and took her to the hospital in a scorched condition. Imrana’s brother Mustakim told that on Saturday morning the police called him and informed him about his sister’s burns. He immediately reached GTB Hospital. The sister was almost 70 per cent burnt.
