Delhi: Elderly Woman Murdered After Looting In Dayalpur


An elderly woman was killed after being robbed in North-East Delhi’s Dayalpur area. The deceased has been identified as Shanti Devi (88). His body was found on the bed in his house on Sunday morning. Apart from the hands and feet of the woman, the mouth was tied with a cloth. It is being expressed that the woman was killed by pressing her mouth. Apart from some jewellery, cash, the jewelery and valuables worn by the deceased have been found missing from the house of the deceased. Apart from the crime team, the FSL team has collected evidence from the spot. The police are suspecting that the incident was carried out at the behest of someone knowledgeable.

Shanti Devi used to live alone in her 300 yards house located at Gali No. 4, Karaval Nagar Extension. In the year 2018, her husband OP Sharma died after illness. He retired from the Customs Department. Shanti Devi has three sons Deepak Sharma, Dinesh Sharma and Neeraj. All three live in different places with their families. Deepak is retired from Lok Nayak Hospital, he currently lives in Faridabad with his family. The same middle son Dinesh Sharma is retired from the education department and lives with his family in Mukherjee Nagar. Youngest son Neeraj Sharma is retired from a government bank and lives with his family in Old Delhi.

Mother had trouble walking. In view of this, the family had hired a domestic help a month and a half ago to take care of them. She used to leave after working during the day. On Sunday morning around 8.30 am, the neighbors called Neeraj after seeing the door of his house open. Later, on the advice of Neeraj, when the neighbors reached inside, Shanti Devi was lying unconscious on the bed. Apart from his hands and feet, a cloth was tied over his mouth. The neighbors informed Neeraj about this. Later the police was informed at 9.00 am. Senior police officers reached the spot as soon as the information was received. Everything in the house was spread inside. The entire house was searched. The miscreants had entered the house by breaking the back door, later they left from the front.

After getting the news, the family reached Karaval Nagar. How much cash and jewelery was looted from the house has not been disclosed. The gold chain and tops worn by the woman have been found missing from her body. Police have registered a case of murder after taking the statement of family members. Police handed over the dead body to the family after the post-mortem on Monday. After this, the police is trying to get to the bottom of the matter by interrogating the family members. Along with questioning the domestic help and other suspects, CCTV cameras are being searched nearby.

Suspicion of knowing hand

After preliminary investigation, the police are suspecting that the incident was carried out at the behest of someone known to the elderly woman. Apart from his mobile call details, the police is also interrogating the domestic help. Efforts are being made to reach the accused by interrogating the people living nearby. The police have taken some CCTV footage in their possession.

A case of murder of the woman has been registered after the robbery. Apart from the crime team, the FSL team has collected evidence from the spot, efforts are being made to identify the accused and reach them.
