ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2023: Captain Shafali Verma, her opening pair Shweta Sehrawat and talented leg-spinner Parshvi Chopra, three members of India’s Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup-winning team, were on Monday included in the ICC Team of the Tournament. Under the leadership of Shefali, the Indian women’s team won the first Under-19 T20 World Cup by defeating England by seven wickets in the final on Sunday, which is India’s first world title in women’s cricket.
While opening the innings, Shefali, apart from batting fast, also presented a view of his strategic intelligence as a captain. He played a stormy inning of 78 runs in 34 balls against UAE with 12 fours and four sixes. She was the third most successful batsman in the tournament with 172 runs. The captain also tried his hand at bowling, taking four wickets in seven matches and giving runs at an economy rate of just 5.04.
Second opener Shweta, however, prevailed over her senior teammates Shefali and Richa Ghosh and finished as the top scorer of the tournament. He scored at a strike rate of 139.43 and an average of 99. Parshvi took only two wickets in India’s first three matches but bowled brilliantly in the closing stages and was the second most successful bowler of the tournament with 11 wickets in six matches. This leg-spinner took four wickets for five runs against Sri Lanka in the team’s last Super Six match. He took three for 20 against New Zealand in the semi-final and then two for 13 in the final.
The leadership of the team has been handed over to Grace Scrivens of England, while two more of her teammates Hanna Baker and Ellie Anderson have got a place in this team. New Zealand’s Georgia Plimmer, Sri Lanka’s Devmi Vihaga, Bangladesh’s Shorna Akhtar, South Africa’s Karabo Maceo, Australia’s Maggie Clarke and Pakistan’s Anoosha Nasir are also part of the team.
