PM Modi BBC Documentary: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Controversy still persists regarding the BBC documentary made on PM Modi and Gujarat riots. On Monday, police detained 7 party workers, including the BJP district chief, for stopping the screening of controversial BBC documentary in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

According to sources, the cadre of the Communist Party tried to show the documentary in an open place. During that time the BJP cadre under the leadership of Sasikumar stopped him, due to which there was an uproar. Due to this whole episode, BJP media cell chief Kalidas protested in front of the police station demanding his release.

BBC’s controversial two-part docu-series on PM Modi and the Gujarat riots has been the talk of the town ever since it first aired on January 17. The center imposed a ban on its mass display, but despite this screening was done in the campuses of many educational institutions.

The ruckus started from JNU

Just a few days ago, on January 24, the controversial BBC documentary was being screened at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) as well. During that time huge anarchy and violence was witnessed. The university administration had also cut off the power supply in the campus. After this, the authorities suspended the internet in the university campus. At the same time, many platforms were also blocked.

What has the Government of India said about the documentary?

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi has described the documentary as a propaganda piece. The Government of India said in a statement that this documentary shows a one-sided perspective, due to which the screening has been banned. In this episode, the central government had also appealed to block the account showing the documentary through Twitter or YouTube channels.
