Violence erupted after Mahsa Amini’s death
Enshrined in law shortly after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, it was made mandatory for women to wear the hijab in public. Hundreds of women were arrested for not following the dress code in these demonstrations. At the same time, about 100 people had died in the protests that started after Mehsa’s death.

According to the Tasnim news agency, “legal proceedings have been initiated against a woman who disrespected her hijab during the elections for the Tehran branch of the Iran Construction Engineering Organization.” A Twitter user named Golnaz Esfandiyari has shared the video of the headscarf being thrown. It can be seen in the video that as soon as the woman throws the scarf on the stage, the people present there start shouting.
