Ingredients

  • 1 kg tomatoes
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1 onion
  • 1 beet
  • 2 tsp vinegar
  • ¼ cup jaggery
  • ½ tsp ginger powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • ½ tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp black salt

Homemade tomato ketchup recipe

  • Wash the tomatoes thoroughly and cut them into pieces. Now peel garlic, onion, beetroot and cut them into small pieces.
  • Put tomato, garlic, onion and beetroot in a pan. Add half a cup of water and let it boil for 10 minutes on high flame.
  • Now add jaggery powder, ginger powder, garam masala, red chilli powder and black salt. Mix well and use the masher to mash the vegetables and mix everything properly.
  • Keep the flame on high and let it boil for another 20 minutes till the water dries up completely and the mixture becomes thick.
  • Now blend it with the help of an immersion blender to make a smooth paste.
  • Now filter this mixture through a sieve to make a smooth paste. Let the mixture cool slightly.
  • Finally, add vinegar to the ketchup and pour it into a sterilized glass jar or bottle. Your healthy homemade ketchup is now ready to use.

The taste and richness of your ketchup depends on the type of tomatoes chosen. Always choose fresh and ripe tomatoes as they will give natural sweetness to the ketchup. If you have bought tomatoes that are not ripe enough, keep them in a cloth bag in a cool place and let them ripen completely.
