Leading the way to ensure Delhi Police, one of the largest metropolitan police forces in the world, is responsible for the security of 25 million residents. Police has an important role in maintaining law and order, curbing crime, combating drug trafficking, traffic management and providing security to the people.

Along with technology, the modus operandi of crime has also changed. This has also increased the expectations of law enforcement and government in the society. In order to protect the citizens, the police need to be one step ahead of the criminals. The guiding mantra for the police with simplicity and innovation is more effective against crime. For this, the police need to be present and visible on the road 24 hours a day, throughout the year. The unfortunate incident in Kanjhawala recently brought these things to the fore and will not be tolerated.

Data and technology are changing the very nature of police work. This change should not be seen as a threat. With the help of technical experts, the police should be made to crack down on the criminals. Gender sensitivity is an important aspect. For this, there should be panic buttons in public transport, separate toilets for women, women’s desks in all police stations.

The complaints should be taken seriously to take care of those arriving at the outpost or police beat. Many a times, complaints are received about the police that the investigation is not being done, there are allegations that the other side is involved, it is necessary to take steps to remove it.

Delhi ranks third in the country in terms of violent crime.

Delhi has around 81,000 police force. Recently, the murder of a girl and throwing her dead body into pieces came to light after several months. Police patrolling and check points need to be further strengthened after the incident in Kanjhawala on New Year’s Eve.

The police lapses in the death of ASI Shambhu Dayal Meena, chain snatching at a traffic intersection during evening rush hour and the death of 2 innocent people while preventing an incident of open firing, need to be probed. LG said that there is a need to be more careful on serious incidents. It is important to maintain sensitivity towards victims and families when interacting with the media. Investigation of criminal cases is one aspect. Special care should be taken that there is no delay in registering FIR in cases of crime. Expressing happiness, the Lieutenant Governor said that the police is constantly moving forward in terms of technology.
